Beaune Appétit!

In Beaune we discovered the best local restaurant, Caves Madeline. When we arrived for our reservation there was a line out the door, and many of the patrons were locals, so we definitely recommend booking ahead. The chef and owner, Martial Blanchon, shares his passion with his guests for fresh and local ingredients enhanced with his amazing skill and delectable flavors from the Burgundy region.

We had the tasting menu, and everything was mouth watering and delightful.  Very fresh ingredients, and a balance of flavors that made every course our favorite, it was too hard to decide.  They also accommodated our gluten free dietary requirements with no problem. I feel there was barely any adjustment to the menu, as it was so fresh and free of wheat already, but they made gluten free bread too!

One of the highlight dishes was the langoustines and mussels served in a buttery emulsion. It was light and delicate in flavor, and the langoustines were cooked so perfectly they melted on the tongue. The courses were ordered and balanced, so we began with fresh vegetarian dishes, worked our way through the seafood and finished on the turf side of the menu.  Cave Madeleine is my top pick for Beaune.

Don’t forget the wine list! especially since we are in one of the wine capitals of the world. There is an extensive list, and we enjoyed a Grand Vin of Morey-Saint-Denis.  A lovely Pinot noir recommended by the sommelier. Plenty of options in all price points. And of course everything is local, so you can’t go wrong with any choice. Beaune Appétit !
